  1. *Period 68 Week 24 *Date of planning: 24/02/2024 *Date of teaching: 26/02/2024 UNIT 8: TOURISM Lesson 7: Looking back and Project A. Objectives: By the end of the lesson, students will be able to: - Review vocabulary and the grammar in unit 8 by doing some exercises - Say what they like doing and do not like doing most on holiday - Write a short advertisement for a tourist attraction on their area. B. Language knowledge: 1. Structures: articles (a/ an / the) and zero article; compound nouns 2. Vocabulary: review vocabulary in unit 8 C. Teaching aids: 1. Students: lesson plan, textbook, PPT, projector 2. Teacher: textbook, notebook D. Skills: + Target skill: reading, writing skills + Others: speaking, listening skills E. Procedures: I. Warm up - Teacher (T) asks students (Ss) some questions: “Do you like going on holiday?”/ “Where do you go on holiday?” - Ss work in pairs to ask and give answers to the questions: “What do you like to do on holiday? What do you dislike to do? Why?” II. New lesson: 1. Vocabulary: *Activity 1: Fill in each gap with a word from the box to complete the passage. There are two extra words. - Ss read the requirement - Ss read the words in the box, then scan the passage to find out if there are any new words. (tailor-made, range from to , aim to, etc.) - Ss underline keywords which help them to find correct answers - Ss do the exercise individually in 2 minutes then compare with a partner. - Ss give their answers and explain why - T checks and corrects the answers Key:
  2. 2 1. safaris/ expeditions 3. holidays 5. travelers 2. expeditions/ safaris 4. touring 6. experience *Activity 2: Form compound nouns from the following words then fill the gaps to complete the sentences - Ss read the requirement - T reviews how to make compound nouns - Ss read the given words in the box, and form compound nouns by combining two words together - Ss underline keywords in each sentences - Ss works individually to fill the gaps with those compound nouns to complete the sentences, then compare with their friends’ answers. - Ss give their answers and explain why - T checks and corrects the answers Key: 1. jet lag 3. stopover 5. holidaymaker 2. checkout 4. sunglasses 6. take-offs *Activity 3: Form compound nouns from these words and make sentences with them - Ss read the requirement - Ss work in pairs, read the given words in the box, and form compound nouns by combining two words together, then make sentences with them in 2 minutes - Ss give their answers and explain why - T checks and corrects the answers - T calls some Ss to make sentences using the compound nouns randomly - T gives comments and corrects the sentences Key: tour operator, package tour, return ticket, software, round trip. 2. Grammar: * Activity 4: Find and correct the mistakes in the sentences, using a/ an/ the/ zero article - T reviews articles: - new information A/ An - description - known information - when to specify what/ who The - the only or unique things - the world around us/ things we all know about - a few countries, island groups, mountain ranges, oceans, rivers
  3. 3 - things in general (plural/ uncountable nouns) Zero article - meals, months, days, special times of the year - most names of people and places - geographical areas, lakes, mountains and islands - Ss read the requirement - T reminds Ss to find mistakes of articles by focusing on nouns in the sentences - T finds and corrects mistakes in sentence 1 as an example - Ss work in 4 groups to find mistakes and correct them in 2 minutes. Group 1: sentence 2-3/ Group 2: sentence 3-4/ Group 3: sentence 4-5/ Group 4: sentence 5-6 - Ss go to the board, write their answers and explain - T checks and corrects the answers Key: 1. sun => the sun, UK => the UK 2. brain => the brain 3. Bicycle => The bicycle 4. expedition => an expedition, interior => the interior 5. long trip => a long trip 6. the history => history, history => the history * Activity 5: Rewrite each sentence so that it has a similar meaning, using the word in capitals - Ss scan the sentences and the given words - Ss work in group to rewrite the sentences in 2 minutes Group 1: sentence 1/ Group 2: sentence 2/ Group 3: sentence 3/ Group 4: sentence 4-5 - Ss read aloud their answers - T gives comments and corrects answers Key: 1. What a terrible journey (it was)! 2. We stayed at a lovely hotel by the sea. 3. The programme I watched yesterday was interesting. 4. My friend has just bought an old guitar. 5. She needs to go on a business trip to Kyoto. 3. Project - Ss read the given advertisement and tick good ways to write an advertisement (create a striking headline, keep your ad brief, try to attract attention, give the main features)
  4. 4 - Ss present their advertisements for a tourist attraction. - T and the whole class listen to the presentation and give comments and marks. III. Consolidation Ss tell what they have reviewed: vocabulary in Unit 8, compound nouns and articles. IV. Home work - Review vocabulary and grammar in Unit 8 - Prepare for the next lesson: Unit 9 – Getting started
